Changing Views of STEM Through Engagement with Sport

Reaching over 3 million students in the USA since 2014 through our Digital Platform, the Future Goals Programme teaches important STEM skills. Using the fast-paced, exciting game of hockey as a STEM learning vehicle, the program helps students understand the real world applications of science and maths principles.

Students were engaged by having the chance to hear from NHL players, mascots, and alumni. They also had the opportunity to attend local arenas where they could see local teams practice, which reinforced concepts of force, friction, and angles that come to life on the ice.

After taking the course, 42% of students were more interested in taking STEM courses, and 41% were more interested in pursuing a career in STEM.

“Bright, engaged students who understand STEM concepts become bright, engaged adults and leaders in our community. They represent our future, not simply the future of our fan base.”
