How well do you know the intended beneficiaries of your programme?

Very well. We have identified the key stakeholders we want to support and have a clear understanding of their behaviour, what support they need, and what would make the biggest difference for them.

Somewhat well. We know who we want to support and have a good idea of what they need help with, but haven’t really listened to them, or their reality and needs are not very clear to us.

Not well. We haven’t yet defined specific audiences we want to support, or we have identified them but don’t know much about them and their needs yet. Alternatively, we do one-off social impact activities aimed at supporting different audiences each time.

Is everyone in the organisation clear on what success looks like?

Very clear. We are all aligned on the programme goals, the key performance indicators, and how we will measure and evaluate results.

Somewhat clear. We haven’t documented the programme goals and key performance indicators so we might not be aligned, but we have a good idea of what we’d like to achieve. However, we might struggle with measuring results.

No, we’re not. We haven’t yet agreed on overarching goals, expected outcomes, nor metrics, and we’re not sure how to measure success.

Is the programme methodology fit for purpose?

We know it is. We have carefully considered the best methodology to help us achieve the expected outcomes and know how we will create impact over time. We are also taking advantage of organisational know-how and people to help us achieve our goals.

Somewhat. We know we’re creating positive impact, but we don’t fully understand which aspects of the programme work best and why, so it’s difficult to see if we could be making more of an impact. We could probably use better tools too.

Possibly not. There seems to be a mismatch or a gap between what we’re doing and hoping to achieve and the outcomes we’re actually achieving. We’d like to ensure we’re making the most of our resources and that whatever we do aligns with our goals and the needs of our community.

How do you measure your impact?

Thoroughly. At the end of a cycle we know if we’ve met our KPIs, the difference the programme has made in the community, and have insights to help us improve the programme.

We have anecdotal evidence that the programme has had a positive impact and we can tell how many people we have reached or how much money we have raised, but we struggle to understand and report the full picture of the difference we have made in people’s lives. It’s also hard to tell what we could be doing better.

It’s difficult to compile data about the number of people reached or how much money was raised, and we have no insight from beneficiaries that tells us what impact the programme has had on them.
